Greed, slavery, and corruption, in adition to the oppresive heat and horrific disease created the 'Heart of Darkness' that Marlow travelled through in Joseph Conrad's fine novel. While not quite a 'heart of darkness' our bank was certainly a 'colon of gloom' this morning as the four horses of the apocalypse galloped in bearing 'streamlining', 'relocation', 'redundancy', and 'poverty'. My family must take much of the credit for my reprieve as it has been their presence at home that has driven me to work both consistently and punctually. As many of my fellow employees are frog-marched off the premises to spend more time with their gardens, I giggle merrily through the afternoon before knocking off early with a 'heart of lightness' and a bottle of Glenkinchie.
