Balvenie Single Malt Whisky Review

The Balvenie distillery lies just to the east of the Glenfiddich distillery in the centre of the Speyside region within the hills that dominate Dufftown. A beautiful honey-sweet malt with orange, spice, and a hint of sherry, the Balvenie malts are quite different from those produced by their Glenfiddich neighbour. Distinctive bulbous stills may be responsible for the oiler and creamier whisky produced by Balvenie, despite the sharing of water supply and head distiller with Glenfiddich. We love the single malt whiskies from this distillery and we're sure you will too.

Local peat and barley from their own farm are used by the Balvenie distillery

Heat waste from the Glenfiddich distillery is used to produce steam to heat the Balvenie stills

Hand-me-down stills from the Lagavulin and Glen-Albyn distilleries are used by Balvenie

Brisbain experiences a phenomenon every summer where happy, law abiding men, after months of opressive heat, lose their sensibilities and murder their entire family. After two warm weeks in Dorset I know how they feel. Taking two hormonal teenage kids away from their friends to a quiet guesthouse provided a non too eclectic mix of boredom, hatred and more boredom and hatred. Only leaving them behind with the house could have been any worse. As I walk down to the river one evening to 'conduct some research' into the effectiveness of Balvenie as a means of alleviating depression, I make the decision to drown myself in the event of a negative result. The whisky is beautiful, the breeze is cool, the family is out of earshot and I live to gripe another day. Balvenie is the sister distillery to Glenfiddich and certainly the girl I would dream of courting. She is sweet, musky and honeyed, a luxurious and distinctive companion. However, her sister is nice enough, a little cheaper, and available in even the poorest public houses....
