Auchentoshan Single Malt Whisky Review
Auchentoshan is a wonderful example of a lowland malt. If you want a single malt whisky full of fiery intensity you are looking in the wrong place, but if you want a malt that is mellow while still retaining plenty of character then Auchentoshan should be perfect. A method of triple distillation is used to produce a smooth, light spirit that is more 'flowery, grassy valleys' than 'heathery, salty coasts'. The distillery offers a good range of bottlings starting with a 'NAS' and a 10 year old right up to a 31 year old and include an excellent '3 wood' using bourbon and sherry casks. Excellent availability and very reasonable prices make Auchentoshan an ideal introduction to Lowland malt whisky.

Jenny, the wonderful lady who keeps me on the expensive side of sanity, feels my love of Auchentoshan is a vindication of her belief that "the physical theory of magnetic attraction can be applied to all personal relationships". 'Opposites always attract' she says. I suggest that spending more time in the company of this gentle, easy-going malt will mellow my character. She suggests I spend more time with the kids. No wonder we're still so attracted to each other! The time I do get to spend with this fine example of a lowland malt always provides a pleasant lttle hole in lifes Polo of pain. If I have one critisism, it's the trouble I have stopping before the end of the bottle. | ||||
