Online banking has become something of a phenomenon over the last few years with many new online banks appearing, and even more high street banks offering their own online banking. Cahoot were one of the first true online banks, and offered some great deals to attract their initial customers. When I joined Cahoot in early 2000 they were offering about £2500 interest free for 12 months as a combination of their credit card and overdraft facility. This was too good an offer to resist and I joined Cahoot with the intention of using the money for the 12 month period before paying it back and closing the account. However, Cahoot did something to me that no bank had done before. They impressed me! I found that I still wanted to bank with Cahoot, even when the introductory offers had run out. How could Cahoot have done this? Well, here's a couple of ways: The interest rate on Cahoot savings accounts is always one of the best (around 5% as I'm writing this). The overdraft rate on Cahoot current accounts is also very competitive and a proportion of the overdraft is interest free. The Cahoot website is fantastic allowing quick and easy transfers of money between accounts and simple online application for loans, savings accounts, or overdraft extensions. The Cahoot email alert system can be customised to notify you when your balance reaches a certain level, or a payment of over a certain amount leaves your account. Cahoot have never charged me on the odd occasion that I've slightly exceeded my overdraft or missed a credit card repayment (although I'm sure charges exist for serial offenders). I could go on, but this should give you an idea why a financial tart like myself should choose to settle down with Cahoot. I have only one slight criticism. The online statements are only available for twelve months, which means it helps to have printed paper copies when you're trying to do your tax return! Make sure you check out the current introductory offers at Cahoot but be warned, you might end up sticking with this fantastic online bank.
